Head of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay will make the first official visit to Uzbekistan.

During his visit, the Director-General will meet with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, UNESCO announced in an official statement.

UNESCO is currently strengthening cooperation with Uzbekistan, a key partner in the region. Particular attention will be paid to issues related to the reform of the education system, freedom of expression and the safety of journalists, water management and the preservation of cultural heritage.

Recall that UNESCO and Uzbekistan adopted and signed a joint program action plan for 2018-2021 during the visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to UNESCO headquarters on October 8, 2018, which was the first visit of the President of Uzbekistan over the past 20 years.

During the visit, the Director General will also meet with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, including to discuss issues of strengthening the state’s policy and potential to restore the country’s rich cultural heritage.

It is reported that Audrey Azulay will also open the Sharq Taronalari international music festival and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Samarkand: a crossroads of cultural sites listed on the World Heritage List in 2001 and the historic center of Bukhara listed on 1993.
